Today, May 6, 2023, the results of the 2024 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program will be made public, and Kenyans are among the millions of people worldwide who will be anticipating the US Green Card Lottery outcomes.
Those who applied for the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, sometimes known as the “Green Card Lottery,” can check with the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the U.S. Department of State to determine if they were chosen at random.
Starting at noon on May 6, participants in the DV-2024 lottery who enrolled between October 5, 2022, and November 8, 2022, will be notified if they won.
By entering the confirmation details they received after signing up for the DV-2023 program online and clicking the blue “Check Status” button, applicants can view their status online.
The green card lottery, previously known as the Diversity Visa Program, is run by the US Department of State and awards up to 55,000 green cards each year to citizens of nations with historically low rates of immigration to the US.
The most well-known route to obtaining permanent residence in the United States is through the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery program.
Countries with more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the preceding five years are not eligible to participate.
Kenyan citizens, including those already living in the United States on valid non-immigrant visas, had the opportunity to enter the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery 2024.
According to the US State Department, about 7 million people from all over the world registered for the DV-2024 lottery last year during the open registration period.
Once selected, winners must apply for permanent residency in the United States, which includes passing a background check and an interview.
By September 30, 2024, those chosen must have been granted a permanent residence visa/green card in order to relocate to the United States with their eligible family members.
