TSC Unveils New Policies and Requirements For Employing New Teachers

Teachers are hired by the TSC in line with the recruitment rules established by the Commission, which are regularly revised.

The commission posts openings for employment, and qualified individuals apply for such positions by completing an online application.

  • Must be a Kenyan citizen
  • Must be 45 years of age and below
  • Must be registered as a teacher as stipulated in Section 23 of the Teachers Service Commission Act 2012.

Those registered but do not possess Certificates of Registration must attach a copy of online printout of TSC number and original bank pay-in slip for teacher registration.

Original Professional and Academic Certificates which may include;

  • CPE/KCPE Certificate
  • KCE/KCSE Certificate
  • PTE Certificate
  • Diploma Certificate
  • Degree Certificate
  • School Leaving Certificate

NB: Candidates without academic and professional certificates must show evidence of having applied for confirmation from KNEC and it is the onus of the concerned teacher to follow-up with KNEC within 14 days.

 
QUALIFICATIONS FOR RECRUITMENT BY TSC  

Graduate Teachers

C+ (plus) average and C+ (plus) in both teaching subjects at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or two (2) Principles and one (1) Subsidiary passes at the Advanced Level (A Level ) examination are required. Furthermore, they need either:

a) Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minimum of two (2) subject specializations,

(b) A Bachelor’s Degree in either the Arts or Sciences and a PGDE in two separate subject areas;

c) Bachelor of Science in Education or Bachelor of Arts in Education, both with a minimum of two teaching specializations, or,

d) Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and Extension, with a double major.

N.B: Applicants with the following qualifications are also eligible;

i) Diploma in Education Holders with a Mean Grade of C (Plain) and C (Plain) in the two teaching subjects at KCSE and have undertaken a Bachelors of Education Degree.

ii) Those who obtained Mean Grade C (Plain) at KCSE and C (Plain) in the subjects of study at A-Level and obtained at least 1 Principle and 2 Subsidiaries for Sciences, 2 Principles and 1 Subsidiary for Arts prior to undertaking a Bachelor of Education Degree.

Diploma Teachers

Applicants must have a minimum Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE or its equivalent with at least C+ (Plus) in the two teaching subjects.

N.B: Hearing and visually impaired teachers who enrolled for training with Mean Grade of C(Plain) and C (Plain) in the two teaching subjects are eligible.

Technical Teachers

Applicants must have a minimum Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE or its equivalent with at least C+ (Plus) in the two teaching subjects or one (1) Principle and two (2) Subsidiaries at ‘A’-Level in subjects studied. In addition, they must have either:

i) Bachelor of Education Technology (BeD TECH); or,

ii) Bachelor of Science (BSc) in any relevant technical Subject (s) /Course; or

iii) Higher Diploma in a technical course; or

iv) A Diploma in a technical course.

Further, applicants under category (ii) above MUST possess a Diploma in Technical Teacher Education from Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC), previously known as Kenya Technical Teachers College
