The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a mass recruitment exercise for tutors to fill positions in teacher training institutions across the country.
In a memo dated January 6, the commission advertised 154 positions for tutors in teacher training colleges and the Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (Cemastea).
CEMASTEA is a public institution under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology whose core mandate is to build the capacity of teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
The institution focuses in training teachers on effective teaching & learning classroom practices not only in Kenya but also in other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
130 of the tutors are targeted for TTCs while the rest are set to fill positions at the Cemastea as national trainers.
In the memo, interested applicants are advised to make their application through TSC online portal latest by Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
The vacancies target qualified secondary school teachers who have a minimum grade of C4, T-scale 9 and senior master IV.
They are also expected to hold a degree in education (science) or an equivalent course from a recognized University.
TSC is also preparing to hire more teachers in secondary schools that will be affected by the recruitment of the 154 tutors for tertiary institutions.

Interested candidates should create an account on TSC Online portal, teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.
To create an account, the teachers will need to update their academic qualifications complete with Primary and Secondary School certificates as well as those from Tertiary level.
The tutors are also expected to have a valid TSC number and must be citizens of Kenya.
“The Commission advertises for vacant posts for teachers. This online system allows you to apply for any post you qualify and gives you the opportunity to track every stage of processing up to appointment.
“If you apply online, you don’t need to submit a hard copy version to the Commission. No payments is required of any kind. As a teacher, You are not expected to register again with the Commission,” reads a statement on the site.
