Three students from Chogoria Girls High School and a matatu driver on Saturday lost their lives after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Area 49 along the Kenol-Sagana Road.
While confirming the incident, Maragua Police Commander Alexander Shikondi said the matatu was enroute to Kenol from Sagana with high school students on board when the accident occurred.
The driver of the matatu is said to have attempted to overtake a vehicle around Area 49 but misjudged the distance and speed of an oncoming lorry, resulting in a head-on collision.
The survivors, who sustained injuries, were rushed to various hospitals within Murang’a County for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have since been moved to General Kago Mortuary in Thika while the car is impounded at Maragua Police Station
The incident comes days after students from Gatitu Secondary School in Gatanga were involved in a road accident after the bus they were travelling in lost control and veered off the road.
