When TSC  advertise internship Jobs , unemployed teachers seem excited to do application to win the vacancies. The successful shortlisted candidates usually present themselves to the panelists with their documents even though there are some that are usually left behind yet are equally important during the selection.
Some of the things that should be put right includes;

(A)Learners progressive results.

Most applicants do not carry their learners progressive/analyzed results for the period they have been teaching. Those who remember to carry do it for one year/term. The marking scheme additional note to the effect;

  • without results totally  = 0.0
  • one year results            = 0.2
  • two years  results          = 0.4
  • 3 years results               = 0.6
  • four years  results          =0.8
  • five years and above     = 1.0.

Advice to  BOM/Unemployed Teachers:
Whenever you go for interviews, carry results for at least 3 years which should be analyzed in your mark books. The mark book should bear your name. Those who use computer to generate results should ensure printed copies bear their names against the subjects they teach. Both the mark books and printed results should be signed by the school in order to make them valid.

(B). Most candidates lack documentation in co- curricular activities.

Some tend to present documents showing how they performed when they were students . Remember the marking scheme demands for one to provide evidence of coaching learners i.e. Soccer, Basketball, Athletics, Music. Below is how marks are spilt;

  • school level   =0.2
  • sub county    =0.4
  • county level   =0.6
  • regional level = 0.8
  • national level  =1.0.

This calls upon for secretaries of various co- curricular activities to consider giving teachers certificates whenever they take students to various levels of participation.

(C). Special talents/ leadership skills
This area is  poorly scored by the applicants. For one to stand a high chance of scoring evidences must be provided before the panelists. The evidence required include:

  • Appointment letters as Class Teacher, Head of Subject, Head of Department, Director of Studies, Deputy etc.

(D). Presentation

Some candidates present themselves for interviews in a rather disappointing state. Cases like being in  vest, short sleeved t- shirt with tight endings of the sleeves and shaggy hair. Whenever one goes for interview, the level of presentation will give first hand impression. Some applicants get  confused in the arrangement of their documents. It is true that teachers looking for jobs don’t have money but one can afford to buy one pair of decent attire special for interviews.
