TSC chairperson Jamleck Muturi has stated that open slots for teachers who have left the service will be published.
Dr. Jamleck Muturi stated at Tambachi Teachers College in Elgeyo Marakwet County that the commission will take into account places with a teacher shortage throughout the recruiting process.
He indicated that the government is working on a scheme to expand the number of teachers in all public institutions.
Deficit Of Teachers In Schools.
“Nationally we have a deficit of about 100,000 teachers, but the government is always giving us the opportunity to recruit 5,000 teachers every year,” he said.
He also added that the commission is working on a modality of providing conducive working environment for all teachers in the country.
Dr. Muturi has encouraged the newly graduated teachers to apply for the jobs as the commission is recruiting teachers across the country currently.
Owing to the fact that junior secondary school JSS has an alarming deficit of teachers, the commission is in the verge of filling the gap.
Currently, the commission is recruiting all the primary school teachers who have met the set criteria into junior secondary school to bridge the gap.
The commission has set the various qualifications for these teachers which will be considered before recruitment and deployment of teachers to various institutions.
Qualifications For Deployment to JSS
The set qualifications include;
- Minimum of C plain mean grade in KCSE
- Minimum of C+ in 2 teaching subjects
- Minimum of diploma or degree in education.
