The 16th Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA) Annual Representatives’ Conference will be held on December 27 following the lifting and relaxation of Covid-19 containment measures.
KEPSHA President Johnson Njioka said on Friday that the chiefs would hold a meeting at the Sheikh Zayed Ground in Mombasa.
Nzioka said the agenda would come out later but other teachers said the challenges facing competency-based curriculum (CBC) would be at the top of the agenda.
Nzioka said the date for the four-day event was reached during a meeting at the KEPSHA headquarters in Nairobi.
“We are currently working on the schedule, which will cover a four-day program and release as soon as possible,” he said.
Nzioka said the theme of the event is Headmasters: Leading in Crisis, Re-imagining the Future.
10,000 primary school heads usually attend the morning convention and spend the afternoon strolling on sandy beaches, sightseeing and swimming in the Indian Ocean.
But his party was battered by Covid-19 last year, when the government halted public gatherings and imposed restrictions on the movement of individuals, including a lockdown to contain the spread of the pandemic.
Nzioka promised yesterday to release details about how the conference would be held, but assured the government that the forum would follow health protocols from the Ministry of Health.
The association held its last annual delegates’ conference in 2019, before the outbreak of the deadly disease.
More than 7,000 members of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESHA) also held their annual conference at the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KSRA), located near the Sheikh Zayed Centre.
For years, secondary school heads have also been meeting in Mombasa to combine conferencing and holidays. Teachers drive a boom in business for booksellers, public transport and hotel operators in the city of Mombasa.
