Based the new CBC reforms in kenya,  teachers are likely not be able to enjoy their holidays as  from next year as this is the time when they will take training. This program will start from January 2022.

The teachers will be trained by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Kenya Curriculum Development Institute (KICD).

Science teachers will be trained on new approaches to restructured teaching areas. Biology, physics and chemistry would cease to exist as they are known. Junior Secondary will start from class 7.

Teachers will be taught as Integrated IT Science and others will be taught subjects in Health Educators and Home Science.

Other new learning areas will be pre-tech and pre-career studies, performing arts, visual arts, physical education and sports and life skills education. Grade Seven syllabus designs are uploaded by KICD on its website. All publishers are expected to develop teaching and learning materials and submit them for review in March 2022.

Retooling will be a five-day training conducted during school holidays at KICD. The training will be carried out according to the topics and retooling areas of a journal published by TSC Reports. The dates of the training are yet to be informed later.

It will not be possible to start training during the December holiday due to the crash program, with schools closed for only two days before Christmas.

As per the information received from reliable sources the training is likely to start in March when the schools KNEC exam will be over. The government has already released a budget of 1 billion for the implementation of the CBC curriculum.

The teachers of biology, chemistry and physics will handle the integrated science. ‘Teachers will handle this new material with ease once the retreat is made. No special teacher is needed to read magazine

Physics and Mathematics teachers will be taught pre-tech and pre-career studies. Skills will be offered in this field through woodworking, metalworking, technical drawing, electricity, electronics, typewriting, short hand, textile and clothing and auto mechanics.

The training is part of the preparations being made by the government before Class V learners move to junior secondary in January 2023.

Like last week, CS of Education Prof. George Magoha and Interior CS Fred Matiangi met with all Director of Education stakeholders and county commissioners and briefed them on ways to build an additional 11,600 classrooms across the country.

In 2023, enrollment will be expected to double as we will have double intake.

This is because the current standard six and seven learners will join junior secondary in 2023 and 2024 respectively. The current curriculum will continue as it is being gradually phased out.

The percentage of learners in secondary school is expected to increase to 27. The number of learners will increase from 4,381,701 to 6,029,168 as per the CBC Implementation Task Force report.

Due to this high enrollment, there will be demand for more teachers. As per the recent data, TSC is hiring 5,000 teachers annually for secondary teachers. In addition, TSC is promoting and rehiring primary school teachers who have high school qualifications to bridge the gap.
