2022 educational year will be the shortest and most intensive in the country’s history. A closer look at the term dates reveals a race against time and the curriculum for many stakeholders.
The term dates for the 2022/2023 school year have been made public by Kenya’s ministry of education this year.
Terms have been significantly cut to two months each, with the intention of resuming the traditional academic year timetable by 2023.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i declared Monday, July 11, 2022, a public holiday, delaying the start of classes until Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
In a gazette notice issued on Friday, Matiang’i said Monday would be holiday to allow the marking of Idd ul-Adha.
The second term was slated to start on July 11, 2022, and lapse on September 16, while the third term runs from September 26 to November 25.
This is good for the learners to recover lost time due to covid. However the terms being two months the fees remained the same and in some cases was increased, its shocking how cruel it has been for the parents to cope with the situation
I don’t understand why the rush to recover lost time. These are our children and they are with us for the long haul. It’s not like they are being shipped out anywhere else. The condensed academic year has been torturous to the parents and guardians to say in the least. Increased cost of living occasioned by increase of cost of fuel, food stuff, not to mention the economic downturn as a result of COVID-19. What is the rush aimed to achieve? Whether the children finish the academic year today or tomorrow makes no much difference in the real sense, they are our children at the end of the day. The cost of fast tracking the academic years far out weigh the benefits. This has been the toughest and roughest academic times for students. parents and guardians and teachers. The system has been extremely unfair to the majority of its citizens. Worse still, after rushing through it all, there is no hope of jobs and university slots are limited. Its overwhelmingly tragic 😥
In our school my fellow students are been bitten wildly with teachers and the perfect are give authority to punish fellow students through biting them slaps, using muscle of their boy using belts and even lied upon others my school is (Friends bwake boy kitale)
