Mama Ngina Girls was started on 25th January 1988 as a public double-streamed boarding secondary school for girls.
The school has been headed by five Principals to date, namely :
- Mrs. Lucy Mwawasi from 1988 to 1990,
- Ms. Beata Mkok from 1991 to 1993
- Mrs. Samba Rassul from 1993 to 2016,
- Fatma A. Athman acting Principal from January 2017 to April 2017 and

Mama Ngina girls is among the best-performing girls schools in Mombasa county.
In the 2021 KCSE examinations, the school attained a mean grade of 8.08 which is a B- minus, where 160 out of the 197 candidates who sat the exams attained the direct university entry grade.

Candidates can access their KCSE results by sending an SMS with their full index number (11 digits) to 20076. The SMS can be sent via any phone network; Safaricom, Telcom, Airtel with charges of Ksh.25. Do not include any spaces between your index number and the word “KCSE”, for example; 100467532KCSE.
