Prior to the opening of the online portal, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) addressed critical questions from candidates who took the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
KUCCPS confirmed that it has yet to open the online portal while responding to many issues ranging from the minimum entry grade to approved schools.
“The application dates will be publicised on the KUCCPS website and social media platforms in due time,” KUCCPS stated.
The minimum grade required for government sponsorship was one of the candidates’ main concerns. This was after speculation that the university entry grade had been raised to B- (minus).
Others sought to know whether the revised university minimum entry grade will affect candidates from the previous years.
“Does the raising of university entry grade affect the 2021 candidates applying for placement this year?” one candidate posed, “No. it will not affect the 2021 KCSE candidates,” KUCCPS responded on Monday, March 13.
On the other hand, a section of candidates questioned whether they can apply for a placement at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
“KUCCPS does not place students in KMTC. Kindly contact the institution for further assistance,” KUCCPS explained on Monday, March 13.
KUCCPS places candidates at universities and other institutions of higher learning across the country. Each institution pays an annual membership fee.
On whether it was possible to pursue two programs concurrently while being sponsored by the government, the agency maintained that it was impossible.
“The government can only sponsor you for one program,” KUCCPS clarified.
Meanwhile, there was confusion about the looming hike of fees for universities with many seeking clarification from KUCCPS.
The institution led by Mercy Wahome elucidated that it was only tasked with the placement of sponsored students at universities and colleges.
“Kindly note that matters school fees are regulated and decided by the Ministry of Education and the Universities Fund,” the institution added.
On placement details, KUCCPS explained that candidates will have the chance to revise their preferred program including changing learning institutions.
“Yes it includes revising your school choices,” KUCCPS added
