KNUT pushes for pay raises and promotions.
KNUT pushes for pay raises and promotions-A better salary for primary school headteachers is demanded by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) because of their increased responsibility. The move to house junior secondary school students in primary schools would increase the workload for headteachers, according to union secretary general Collins Oyuu, who told principals yesterday that better terms of employment were required.
According to Oyuu, “There is a clause in the prior CBA that is not addressed, and as a union, we shall be requesting a salary increase in line with terms and conditions of employment.” Oyuu asked that the headteacher wage review be put into effect in January when he spoke at the 18th Annual Conference of the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (Kepsha) at the Sheikh Zayed Children Welfare Centre in Mombasa.
We want to know what the situation is for teachers in terms of their welfare as they take on these obligations now that the junior secondary school is housed in primary schools. It is necessary to reassess the terms since head teachers will soon be overworked, according to Oyuu.
The union also urged that the Teachers Service Commission promote teachers who have been stagnant in one job group for a while as well as those who are stepping in for acting capacity. They encouraged the government to promote headteachers in Grade 1 because of the long-standing stagnation in the development of the tutors at that level.
Why tsc not promoting diploma teachers with degree but promotion is for p1 only with degree
