Teachers in public schools both primary and secondary school will now be required to renew their professional certificates after every five years.
The teachers, in a new policy, it will be now a tall order requirement to undertake in-service professional training that tend to lapse after every 5years, in completion certificates will be renewed.
This welcoming development will be in place for 30 years and in its details, it has a totality of has six modules each lasting for a period of five(5) years.In each module offered teachers will be required to pay ksh:6000.
The recommended institution settled on to carry out this training are:
- Kenyatta University
- Mount Kenya University,
- Riara
- Kenya Education Management Institute(KEMI)
According to Teacher Service Commision(TSC), the four institutions have been contracted on yearly agreement with structures set aside for extension.
last week on Wednesday 8th September 2021,The TSC rolled out refresher courses for teachers across the country.TSC CEO Dr.Nancy Macharia said that this is purposely mean’t to professionalize the teaching fraternity to match other popularized careers like:
- Law
- Engineering.
“We had a very hard time in negotiating for teachers because when you are at the negotiations table they referred to teachers as unskilled or semi-skilled,” Macharia said.
She added by saying teaching profession is going to be respected and teachers will be updated with the academic world revolution.
lastly she echoed by saying ,“We need to see our teachers conduct research projects and write academic research papers to improve the teaching quality in schools,” Missing out this training is not a grantee to miss any promotion
