Today, the long-awaited Form One selection will be made public.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said on Friday that students who took the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations in 2021 will find out today which secondary schools they will be placed to.
Prof Magoha said the placement was fair during an examination of completed Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms in Gilgil and Naivasha sub-counties.
He urged parents to be content with their children’s placement in schools, stressing that they will be taught by trained teachers.
Magoha added, “I can now confirm that parents will know where their children have been placed by today.”
He promised to place intelligent and deserving pupils in good schools, with the majority of them obtaining scholarships.
Magoha indicated that his office was aware of needed instances, citing a letter from Baringo lawyer Fridah Lotuiya requesting a special selection for Baringo pupils from the Ministry. President Uhuru Kenyatta had already issued a directive on the subject, he said.
In her letter, Lotuiya pleaded with the ministry to consider providing scholarships to students whose lives had been disrupted by bandit attacks.
According to Prof. Magoha, the selection process will be based on affirmative action and geographic distribution across the country, with all top students from across the country being grouped together before being placed in national schools.
“Kenya is a country of many colors. If you come to Kenya High, I’d like to see the top Samburu student who took her examinations in Maralal rather than Nairobi. Then I travel to Kibera’s slums and do the same. Whether other parents approve or not, we will take affirmative action,” he remarked.
On the other hand, he promised that the KCSE marking would be done fairly and that the results will be accessible by the end of the month.
