The Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVETs) and the Ministry of Education have released a list of diploma programs that are in great demand on the job market.
After Esther Muoria, the principal secretary for TVETs, had finished speaking, she said that as many students are rushing to enroll in undergraduate programs, the future of the nation depends on TVET graduates.
The demand for diploma programs in STEM, or science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, is significant, according to Muoria.
Based on the data Economic Survey, the above courses are high on demand.
“Skills gained from STEM courses are the future of the economy,” she said. She has encouraged many students to rush and take up these courses.
According to the PS, the Ministry of Education has estimated that in 2030, the TVET courses would have increase by 8 percent in popularity.
“Recent events such as the pandemic changed work positioning in an unprecedented way.
“Consequently, the world has embrace technological skills father than previously anticipated to manage the prevailing trends,” she explained the rising popularity of the STEM courses.
Mrs. Muoria further indicated that students who will take the STEM courses will have a high employability as compared to those undertaking undergraduate courses due to industrial revolution in the country.
This is because industrial revolution will required people with the STEM skills.
STEM courses are classified into six cluster according to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). These include;
