On Friday, January 20, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is expected to announce the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam results.
Machogu is anticipated to release the results at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) offices, following news that paper marking had concluded.
The national examinations for 2022 were administered between February 28 and April 1, 2022.
KNEC conducted the KCSE exam for 884,263 students who took the exams last year. There were 420,845 females and 405,962 males among them.
This is compared to the 826,807 candidates who took the exams the year before.
It is however expected that the CS may not divulge the specific results for candidates and schools after it emerged that the government is keen to eliminate high stakes in the tests..
While releasing the KCPE exam results in December, no ranking of candidates or schools was done based on performance as has been the norm over the years.
And this perished the traditional burst of song and dance from schools and candidates during the release when top performers were called out on national television.
This is in keeping with the new government policy of discouraging unhealthy competition between schools and candidates.
Previously, the government outlawed ranking but revealed the identities of best-performing candidates and their schools.
During the release of the examination results, Machogu is expected to address policy issues affecting the sector including selection and admission of the students to universities and colleges.
The CS is also expected to address next week opening of schools, fees and other broad transition issues in the education sector.
In examinations released the previous year, only 1,138 candidates scored the coveted Grade A (Plain) in the 2021 KCSE exam. Out of this number, 349 were female and 789 were male.
In the 2021 exam results, Kenya High School emerged the best with a mean score of 10.467 followed by Kapsabet Boys with 10.11 points
