The Meru University of Science and Technology has been closed indefinitely as a result of the student riot that shut down the Meru-Maua highway for most of Monday.
Some students are claimed to have protested and requested that VC Romanus Odhiambo return to work after the university council placed him on terminal leave during the upheaval. Odhiambo’s term ends in July.
Interim Vice Chancellor Charity Gichuki indicated in a memo that the University Senate voted to permanently close the institution after a meeting.
The Senate decides to permanently close the university in response to this disturbance. The acting VC declared, “All students must leave the premises at once. She announced that the 10th graduating class ceremony scheduled for March 11 has been postponed immediately till further notice.
