The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams were disrupted on Monday in two schools in Kapkusum, Muchongoi, Baringo County.

This follows an attack in the area by armed bandits. On Monday, the KCPE exams began across the country.

Candidates were forced to abandon the national exam on Monday, March 7, after gunmen launched attacks near the examination centers.

An armed bandit group launched attacks in Kapkusum, Muchongoi, Baringo County.

The gunmen and security forces were still exchanging fire at the time this story was published. However, there were no casualties reported in the schools.

The attack comes despite assurances from Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha and Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mohammed Maalim that security in the areas would be beefed up.

The Rift Valley Commissioner announced on Sunday that the state would provide food and lodging for KCPE candidates in Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Baringo Counties during the three-day examination period.

He mentioned that some of the day schools would be used to house the candidates in order to limit their movements during the period and assist security agents in monitoring them.

Maalim promised parents that no candidate in the area would be excluded from the national paper due to insecurity
